According to residents heard by Inforpress, the loose stones laid to start work on the street, which are having a negative impact on residents' lives.
The owner of a barbershop in this street, João Mendes, told Inforpress today that he was unhappy and said that the stones placed there were making it difficult for passers-by to get around.
According to the same source, the street is very busy with pedestrians and cars, but there are also several commercial establishments there, and the road in question is used a lot by motorists.
"If customers who frequent our establishments have a car and want to park, they won't be able to, because the street is so full of pavements that it's very difficult for people to get around," he said.
Mendes appealed to those in authority to intervene immediately in this issue, which has been dragging on for almost two years, stressing that the people of Brava are the ones most affected.
Bravense woman Ana Gomes, who also shared the same idea, pointed out that people should be very careful when traveling on this street, given that the road itself is narrow and the stones there make it more difficult to get around.
"A lot of people drive down this street every day, and in the state it's in you should be very careful with your vehicles. It's been almost two years since they put the materials in place to start the work and even today the street is in the same situation, so I think it's high time that the municipality resolved this situation once and for all," he appealed.
For his part, the mayor of Brava, Amândio Brito, admitted that the residents are absolutely right, given that this is a very serious constraint on a very busy street.
According to the mayor, when his team took office, the stones were already in place and this means that the old team already had a contract or agreement for the infrastructure to begin
.
As he explained, the project had a call for tenders, a signed contract and the first installment, corresponding to 30 percent (%), had also been sent to the contractor by the previous council.
"I am explaining that the payment of the first installment was not made by the Ministry of Infrastructure, but rather a decision by the former municipality to put its own resources towards that percentage, through an agreement that we are not aware of," he stressed.
However, he assured that at the moment the ministry has been duly informed about the matter and the whole procedure, and they are waiting for the money to be transferred as soon as possible.
"Yes, the project is running a long way behind schedule, and we've already explained why, but we're still waiting for the government to pay for the work, which the contract says is being carried out under the Rehabilitation, Requalification and Accessibility Program (PRRA). The work was supposed to be finished in April 2024, because we went in and found it just like this," he concluded.
